Pneumatic Actuators : Pneumatic actuators as illustrated in the figure below provide for automatic or semiautomatic valve operation.
These actuators translate an air signal into valve stem motion by air pressure acting on a diaphragm or piston connected to the stem. Pneumatic actuators are used in throttle valves for open-close positioning where fast action is required. When air pressure closes the valve and spring action opens the valve, the actuator is termed directacting.
When air pressure opens the valve and spring action closes the valve, the actuator is termed reverseacting.
Duplex actuators have air supplied to both sides of the diaphragm. The differential pressure across the diaphragm positions the valve stem. Automatic operation is provided when the air signals are automatically controlled by circuitry. Semi-automatic operation is provided by manual switches in the circuitry to the air control valves.

Actuadores neumáticos : Los actuadores neumáticos según se ilustra en la figura arriba, proporcionan operación automática o semiautomática de una válvula.
Estos actuadores traducen una señal de aire en movimiento del vástago por la presión de aire actuando sobre un diafragma o pistón conectado al mismo. Los actuadores neumáticos son usados en válvulas de estrangulación para posicionamiento de apertura-cierre donde se requiera una rápida acción. Cuando la presión del aire cierra la válvula y la acción del resorte abre la misma, el actuador es referido como de acción directa. Cuando la presión de aire abre la válvula y la acción del resorte la cierra, el actuador es referido como de acción reversa. Los actuadores bidireccionales tienen aire suministrado a ambos lados del diafragma. La presión diferencial a través del diafragma posiciona el vástago de la válvula. La operación automática es proporcionada cuando las señales de aire son automáticamente controladas por el circuito de comando. La operación semiautomática es proporcionada por interruptores manuales en el circuito hacia las válvulas de control de aire.
