El tetrodo de rejilla de pantalla, en el que la rejilla polarizada positivamente está diseñada como una pantalla
electrostática entre la rejilla de control y el ánodo,
eliminando virtualmente la capacitancia rejilla-ánodo,
permitiendo así que el tubo pueda usarse como un amplificador
estable de RF. La característica Ia-
Va contiene el codo de tetrodo, lo que
no resulta un gran inconveniente si el tubo se emplea sólo
como amplificador de señales pequeñas.
(b)
El tetrodo sin codo, en el que la rejilla polarizada positivamente se usa, no para eliminar la capacitancia ártodo-rejilla,
sino para eliminar el codo de tetrodo en la característica Ia- Va. Así,
el tubo es capaz de producir mayores excursiones de tensión
